ARCHAEUS pierces through the chaotic darkness in my newest digital painting. I really love how Archaeus came out in this depiction. This illustration really came together quite quickly as the concept flowed from me without much deliberation. I wanted to show a warped setting that was almost spiraling into oblivion, to represent the chaotic nature of Neo-Avalon, the electro medieval city where my story takes place.
I enjoyed drawing the roses that surround Archaeus, and tried more to get their form to reflect nature. I think within my psyche, Roses represent a truthful beauty. They are pure forms of the truth that lies within beauty. For Archaeus, they pose they question “what am I fighting for? To balance good and evil, or to dismantle the illusion of balance?”
Overall, I am happy with this work. I think I could have rendered the sparkles a bit neater, but it felt like I was done working on this and needed to move on. I’m happy to share it with you and I hope that you enjoy it.

Witness the temptation of the darkness as WESLAHDONNA prepares to face the shadowy manifestations of the Eternal Rose!
This was my first attempt at a manga layout for my original character, Weslahdonna- the legendary witch designer who weaves her spells into fashion designs. I often picture her within an eternal garden, and like to symbolize her with the rose- a symbol of her eternal love. But the darkness has taken over their shadows, and now Weslahdonna must overcome them. I think this echoes a theme where love can be tainted by the darkness within us.
I love how the movement and dynamism came out with this piece. It was alot of fun to design Weslahdonna within a narrative scene, and I look forward to doing more manga layouts like this- because I have so much stories to tell through my characters!
